So let's get a few things straight...

I've been thinking today about what I want to achieve out of having this blog. I kept a journal when I travelled to London and through Europe for six months last year and found it a pretty rewarding experience.

The real trigger to creating this blog now was my good friend Deb's Hen's Night last Friday Night. I decided I'd like to have a space where I can post photos and let everyone know what's happening in my world. So as soon as I get some pictures uploaded, they will be posted here along with a summary of the (awesome) night.

A bit on the name: I wanted something cute, and I'm kind of into the whole pin-up girl/ burlesque revival that's happening at the moment, at least in my city of Melbourne. So I'm now "The Pin-Up Girl", even though in real life I'm more of a girl next door. I'm actually pretty stoked with my blog name of "Better than Cheesecake" too. I found it on wikipedia when I looked up "pin-up girl". This was part of the entry:

"The term "cheesecake" was for a time synonymous with "pin-up photo". The earliest documented print usage of this sense of "cheesecake" is in 1934, predating "pin-up", although anecdotes say the phrase was in spoken slang some 20 years earlier, originally in the phrase (said of a pretty woman) "better than cheesecake"."

I'd never heard of it, but I dig its vintage-ness, and I also happen to love cheesecake.

The blogs that I find interesting to read are the ones that are updated regularly and discuss culture/ politics etc. as well as just personal stories, so I'm going to keep that in mind here and try to post frequently.

Today we had an all-day induction at work, and one of the activities was talking to a partner about three things we're passionate about. My partner, Ian's, three things were that his wife had just found out she was pregnant, so, his new baby; his wife; and his hobbies such as sport and surfing.

Mine were film, my life-long passion; my friend's wedding on Friday because I'm excited about being a bridesmaid for the first time; and, most importantly, my search for identity and meaning in my life as I try to figure out who I want to be and where I fit in.

My favourite recent film? Garden State. His? Closer.

I think it says a lot about our respective places in life.
