Happy

I just had a great morning.

I've just started work, at 12, and usually when I do this shift I would probably just sleep in and then come to work, but today I got a (free) haircut at 9, then had a coffee at a cafe at the Queen Vic Market, than went shopping and got the new Hot Hot Heat CD for $17, and bought a black shirt and cherry earrings. It was cold when I got up, but the sun came out and it's turning into a nice day. Went to the new-ish GPO shopping centre as well and had a look around. It's nice, very trendy and 'Melbourne'. I love my city.

Am off to Swing Dancing with a couple of friends tonight after a month or so of being too busy to go.

So yeah, all is good.

Have finally made it past the hardest part of the semester and I think I'll be ok from here on in after getting really stressed there for a while.

Sepetember has been a really hard month, but somehow I've made it through. Yay me!

Go Bloods!

Check out the Jack Osbourne picture from my new favourite blog. Who knew there was such a hottie lurking underneath all that puppy fat? Wow.

It's Grand Final week in Melbourne. It's Sydney vs. West Coast-an all interste final-so Melbourne is consoling itself with the fact that Sydney used to be South Melbourne. My dad's a South Melbourne supporter from way back, and they haven't won a premiership since 1933 so I'll be saying "Go Bloods!" tomorrow. They used to be called the 'Bloodstained Angels'. That name is a hell of a lot cooler than the 'Swans'. As a rule I don't really do sport, but the Grand Final and the Melbourne Cup are such a big part of Melbourne life I can make an exception twice a year.

Your Ideal Relationship is Casual Dating

Maybe you're looking for love...
But mostly you're looking for fun.
You could get serious with the right person.
For now, though, you're enjoying playing the field.

True that.

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

In love, you feel the most alive when your lover is creative and never lets you feel bored.

You'd like to your lover to think you are optimistic and happy.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was emotional, moody, and difficult to please.

Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything... no secrets.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage pessimistically. You don't think happy marriages exist anymore.

In this moment, you think of love as something you thirst for. You'll do anything for love, but you won't fall for it easily.

I'm not sure how they got this from questions like 'What animal would you have as a pet' and I said 'dinosaur'.

You Are a Chick Rocker!

You're living proof that chicks can rock
You're inspired by Joan Jett and the Donnas
And when you rock, you rock hard
(Plus, you get all the cute guy groupies you want!)

Cool.

You are

Ok now this is just getting silly.

Well I'm Betty, and she's Veronica.

Time management- it's still and may well always be the bane of my existence. Poetry essay is still in the works, a week after the deadline. It's turning out to be pretty relevant though, as the question is on Judith Wright and how she made myths out of Australia.

Which leads me to wonder who should be creating myths in Australia and about Australians? Surely the poets and artists have some higher claim to it that the politicians and their rhetoric of "mateship" and "a fair go"- as long as you don't arrive on a boat or want to wear a headscarf. See Ms Fits's blog for an apt critique of the issues.

Weekend was good, spent it studying and went out to Gimme Shelter and Cherry on Saturday. My friend Kat and I introduced ourselves to a guy as "Betty and Veronica" and he didn't pick it up. Sigh. We love being ironic but it's no fun if they don't get it at least a little bit.

And tomorrow I'm off to see Canada's own Hot Hot Heat. Looking foward to it- they were great last time around.

(And the relevance of the Banky picture, you ask? Well, we're talking about comic books right? And Chasing Amy is about comic books. Case closed.)

This one's for you, Deb

And I quote:

Monday June 20, 2005

"The real trigger to creating this blog now was my good friend Deb's Hen's Night last Friday Night. I decided I'd like to have a space where I can post photos and let everyone know what's happening in my world. So as soon as I get some pictures uploaded, they will be posted here along with a summary of the (awesome) night."

3 months later, here you go.

It was a great night, and it preceded a beautiful wedding. I'm very happy for both of them.

My highlights of the night included:

-Getting a round of free drinks at Bridie O'Reiley's
-Deb's reaction to the stripper
-Our reaction to the stripper when he wasn't exactly what we were expecting
-The boy on the tram who voluntarily removed Deb's Garter
-All the boys including the bunch of pilots(!) who danced with Deb and us and wished her well
-The private room at Rust Cocktail lounge where we had the stripper
-The Stripper doing his policeman dance with his torch
-Spending one last 'single' night with a good mate.

As I said back in June, it was an awesome night, and considering it was the first hen's night that I and a few of the other girls had been to it went pretty damn well.

I'm surviving... Just.

It's amazing what a good night's sleep can do. After planning to stay up late and write again last night, I said to myself 'I'll just lie down here a minute', and promptly fell asleep for 10 hours. With my shoes on.

And today I got up and finished one of my essays! One down, three to go. Somehow, after hours and hours of trying to write and having my words just not come together in the last few days today it flowed easily- the stuff that was all there already but that I just couldn't put together.

So boldly I go to tackle the next one.

Uni is still all that's on my mind at the moment. Work, uni, eat, sleep. That's all I'm doing right now.

I look foward to the day when these essays are done and I can go back to having some semblance of a life.

Til then.

I hate mornings!

I'm at work. It's 8am in the morning. I was trying to study until 5am, but somehow
I couldn't seem to write eloquently at that time of the night. Funny that. So I had one hour of sleep and now I'm here.

I'm going ok so far, except I feel a bit like I'm in a dream.

Am really stressed out right now but hopefully will be able to churn out 2500 words in the next day or two on Judith Wright's poetry. Why did I decide I wanted to challenge myself and write about poetry? I know absolutely nothing about it, and I don't think I've ever analysed a poem in my life, even though I'm an English major.

I love uni, but it sucks how stressed out I get about essays. I think because I'm kind of a perfectionist, I can't hand in some half-assed piece of work, so I really labour over my essays, but usually hand them in late anyway. Or, as the case has been in the past, not at all, hence why I'm still at uni.

I'm not going to write anymore as deadlines are approaching... and going by.

Sigh.

New Orleans

Can this be modern day America?

If this was a disaster movie it would be too unbelievable.

Let's hope that the common humanity kicks in to get these people the basic necessities they need and for order to be restored.

I keep crying when I watch the news.

Spring

I'm at work. It's not busy (I work in customer service so if there's no calls we can do whatever) and I should be studying since I have a seemingly unsurmountable amount of work to do in the next couple of weeks, but what the hey, I need to keep my blog updated as well. That's important too, right?

So I thought I would add some images of things I love about my city. I was overseas last year and it took me a while to get back into it, but I do love living here. Above are pictures of the Cherry Bar, Rue Bebelons and Ding Dong. We may not always have the best weather (although today is sunny) but there's always great nightlife to be found if your willing to go down an alley to find it. And there are some pictures of my uni, which I have come to love too.
